Spicy Pear Pie/Tart ~ For π Day 2016

Can’t remember how many years I had made a pie or tart for this π day. Not really care about any reason. I just want to have a pie today.

It is a sweet pie, you may call it Tarte Tatin. But silly as I am, I like to call it pie! :p  Don’t judge me, I just like to have fun!

Wish all have a nice day and enjoy the pie!

Spicy Pear Pie/Tart ~ For π Day 2016

Ingredient:

  • 1 pack Puff pastry
  • 3 – 4 Pears, peeled and sliced
  • 25g Brown sugar
  • 60g  Butter or coconut oil
  • 1/2 tsp Ground ginger and ground Cinnamon each
  • 1 tbsp Maple syrup
  • Handful of toasted almond slices

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F/190°C or 170°C in Fan oven.
  2. Place the sliced pears in a bowl of water with lemon juice, set aside.
  3. Bring the butter and sugar in a frying pan on a medium heat. Let the mixture cook until the sauce get brown. Off heat.
  4. Drain the pear slices, add the ground ginger and ground cinnamon to the sugar syrup. Slightly tossing all over to fully coat in the sugar syrup. Caution: the liquid will be very hot!
  5. Use tongs to arrange the caramel-coated the pear slices across the base of the pan. Place the trimmed pastry circle over the top of the pears, tucking in the edges around the filling. Sprinkle some brown granulated sugar on top if you like.
  6. Transfer the frying pan to the preheated oven and cook for 20–25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and crisp on top.
  7. Remove the pan from the oven (caution: the handle will be hot), place a large plate over the top of the pan then carefully flip the pan over, so the tart turns out onto the plate perfectly.
  8. Sprinkle the toasted almond slices on top.  :)

Updated: I put the wrong name in all the photos, they’re not vegan. It should be vegetarian. Because the puff pastry contain dairy product.
